We are proud that our work has achieved quantifiable real world results, including helping win a precedent-setting appeal that reversed an Ontario superior court ruling, and launching a criminal investigation into widespread fraudulent production of and distribution of Indigenous art (There Are No Fakes) and inspire the Innocence Project US to investigate the case of five wrongfully convicted black men (The Skyjacker’s Tale).

Jamie Kastner

Writer-director-producer Jamie Kastner has created an award-winning, internationally acclaimed body of feature documentary work ranging from comic-ironic road movies to cultural essays to crime and political thrillers.

Kastner’s films have played festivals including TIFF, Hot Docs, BFI London, Rotterdam, CPH Dox, Stockholm FF, and Sao Paulo’s Mostra, garnered major media attention in such publications as The New York Times, The Guardian and The Times of London. They have been seen on CBC, TVO, BBC Storyville, ZDF-Arte, Netflix, Amazon, theatrically through Mongrel Media (Canada), Strand Releasing, ScreenMedia (US), Kudokawa (Japan).

Kastner has scripted and is directing the fiction feature adaptation The Skyjacker’s Son, which will be distributed by Mongrel Media in Canada.

As a gun-for-hire he story-edited the CSA-winning (Best Factual Series) debut season of CBC’s long running factual comedy series Still Standing, (Frantic Films) and co-directed the CSA nominated D-Day in 14 Stories(YAP Films).

First hired as a music critic at age 19, Kastner’s print journalism has appeared in The Guardian, Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, Toronto Sun. Prior to making his own documentaries he associate-produced on two films for his uncle, 4-time Emmy winner John Kastner, and produced on various shows on CBC, MuchMusic and TVO, where he also hosted a live pop-culture show. A graduate of University of Toronto’s UC Drama Program, Kastner’s early plays appeared at the Fringe and Summerworks festivals.

Laura Baron Kastner

Laura Baron Kastner has produced seven critically acclaimed feature documentaries. THE SPOILS is currently nominated for four Canadian Screen Awards (Best Writing, Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, Best Sound Design). It premiered at the Munich International Film Festival, won Best Documentary at the Punte de Este Film Festival, is distributed by Blue Ant International and recently started streaming on CBC Gem. NOBODY WANTS TO TALK ABOUT JACOB APPELBAUM was nominated for four 2025 Canadian Screen Awards including Best Documentary. CHARLOTTE’S CASTLE (2023) was nominated for four Canadian Screen Awards and won a 2024 Heritage Toronto award nom for its contribution to public history. THERE ARE NO FAKES premiered at Hot Docs ’19 (where it was a Top 10 Audience Choice Winner), was acquired by Mongrel Media for Canadian distribution and sold widely internationally. PUSH, co-produced with WG Films Sweden, won the Politiken Audience Award at CPH:Dox, where it premiered, the DocsMX Global Docs Jury Award(2019), and the 2020 Signis Special Prize, Prix Italia.

Baron Kastner is developing a slate of narrative fiction projects including THE SKYJACKER’S SON, based on Jamie Kastner’s feature documentary THE SKYJACKER’S TALE (TIFF ’16), and the comedy feature THE STRAY BULLETS, which won the JETS accelerator event at the Berlinale in 2025.

Prior to coming to the world of film production, Laura was a corporate lawyer at a leading Canadian law firm.
